New build (121213) is posted

This build has been long in coming. There are so many fixes gone into this build that it is hard to enumerate them, so I will not list specific fixes. Particular areas of focus have been stability, performance, issues with graphics cards and printers, and drawing compatibility problems. We have been in touch with many of you and the improvements we hope you will see in this build is a direct result of your cooperation.

I have kept the previous patch available on the blog in case if you find it necessary to revert this update. If you find it to be the case, please let me know so we can fix the issue.

New 121024 build is posted

Things has been a bit slow. We have been waiting for fixes to the release version for issues which came up as a result of all other fixes made. This has been a slow process and we have tested the resulting build with a small group of power users first to confirm the stability of this build.

- Added fix for performance issue with NEAR snap
- Fix for Windows Explorer crash as result of clipboard bug in Windows
- Crash and deadlock fixes
- Ability to disable the AEC object processing in case of corruption

- Digitizing fix

- Fix to the last update issue with block visibility

Because of this deliberately slowed down process we hope to have another update some time soon as we have more fixes accumulated in the pipeline.

Are things getting better in the Intellicad world yet?

2012-10-23: I guess I can update this a bit myself from emails... The Intellicad development is moving forward but requires a bit of a grunt.

Survey - Data Collectors

I am using Carlson Survey 2013 build 120814 with IntelliCAD 7.2. This post is regarding the uploading of data to a Nikon 550DTM. I am fully able to download but I need to go to Carlson X-Port or the release of 6.6 I still have on my system to be able to upload data. This is a real issue now as the 6.6 is giving me "Registration Error 415" errors which are very time consuming. I do not wish to use the X-port as being in the drawinf file is sometimes imperative to upload the proper information. This has been an issue every since I've started using anything besides the 6.6. It jus closes the window and does not recognize the usb connection.

SiteNet

I am having some real issues with SiteNet. The first pulldown menu Define Layer.. does not save correctly. If you set up some layers save it with a name then make changes and save it with a new name it saves to the original name. It is difficult to keep developing a site with various options. I had to remove all signs of the trg file so as it would create a new one. I think this is left over from the project data folder problem. If so Then there is mine field of other potential failing file connections.

UPDATE 09/04/12:

Unfortunately, based on feedback we got over weekend and today, it is apparent that there is a new problem with display of blocks/XREFs at certain zoom levels. The entities are there and they apparently will print alright, but this makes difficult to impossible to work.

If you are affected, I suspect this issue will outweigh many good fixes in the build we posted. So, if this is the case, please download the current shipping version to roll-back the one with problem:

Architectural Paper Plans

Today I received a PDF image of an Architectural Foundation Plan [I am not going to receive an electronic DXF/DWG of it :(]
What I do is take my calculator and write out the decimal equivalent of the architectural number on the foundation plan.
Examples 4'10"/19'6"
I would write out 4.833'/19.5'
Why???
I'm suprised when I called into Carlson tech support that entering distances in Architectural speak isn't supported yet.  Brian @ Carlson suggested I post the question in this blog and maybe if their is enough response it'll be programmed or explained why.  Brian wasn't really able to explain to my satisfaction why.
Is it really that hard to program?
Maybe it's that we surveyors haven't asked for it enough (or am I the only guy not getting the electronic drawings?)
Just some thoughts.  What do the rest of you reading this blog think?

Spell Checker????

Would some of you who read this do the following:  (and then post a reply with your results)
drop the following text into paperspace

Surveyors Report:
We found irons all around the block.  We also found that many of those irons were far off from theoretical corners.  We were able to hold nearly record distances on the block.  The distances shown hereon are the prorate distances for lot 2 within the block.

Then do 'spell' from the command line.  In mine it rejects the pural of words. (distances is spelled wrong??)  I would like a confirmation before asking that Leonid look into it.

LINETYPE ERROR!
We were able to edit linetypes, import linetypes, etc. prior to 2013. We are now running 2013/7.2 and we get the following dialog box everytime we attempt to add a linetype or load a linetype (.lin) file. I updated my seat to the beta  beta build 120712 this morning and still have the same problem. I've checked the file locations, tried the default Icad.lin file, moved them to different folders, etc. nothing works. Help this is critical!!

Background image is a large high quality resolution aerial map.  The background image will not plot to any pdf driver.  DWG true view plots the image in monochrome.  AutoCad Civil 3d, 2011 plots it to pdf just fine.

Command – Draw Plan View Sheet

The command needs a lot of attention as it is unusable for all intents and purposes right now.

First: The scale is set to 50 scale, so the viewport it creates is 1:1 and it scales up the sheet border 50x

In my opinion, the view port should come in at 50 scale and the sheet border at 1:1, however this may be a taste issue so moving on.

Second:  The command makes two viewports.  One at 1:1 as mentioned above but the rotation / twist screen has little to do with the centerline alignment selected.  The second view port is at the page size of 24”x36”, and is of course very small in the bottom left hand corner.

Third: The graphic bar scale comes in labeled for 100 scale.  The drawing is set to 50 scale, and the option during the command was selected at 50 scale as well.

SiteNet

I have followed the steps in the SiteNet movie, without success. The create existing surface does not trim to the boundary polyline and the final surface is the design layers only and not merged to a new resultant tin.

The trg file created is always put in the project folder regardless of which subfolder you save it to. A copy is put in the project folder and is updated with most operations in SiteNet.

Feet/Inch option in Extend a line. If the job default is set to metric the fee/inch option in extend a line sometimes treats the feet as metres. It will work sometimes, and I cannot find the pattern when it does not work, it is almost random.

Won't open drawing

I just updated to the 120712 build and still can't open a drawing that opens with ease in ACADlt.  I removed all images and it still doesn't get past _open command. It works fine on dwgs created with ICAD 7.2.

XREF PROBLEM

I'm running 2013 7.2 build 120712
Windows Vista 4G

After inserting a XREF into my drawing and then closing the drawing, I am prompted to save the drawing that appears to work, but then I get the standard Intellicad message <Intellicad encountered a problem> and the lock up.

The XREF is saved but it's a pain restarting Intellicad every time.

Purge command dialog...

Items in the PURGE command dialog are not sorted. i.e. layer names and block names are not sorted.

Plotting problem...

I understand the plotting issue has been reported here and has been "escalated". I am aware it does not affect all users / systems.

Is there sufficient information about the defect to identify it or is there something the affected users can do to assist with the resolution of this issue?

Rotate in Intellicad 7.2 2013

I'm using build 120712 and when I use the rotate command the line work is not rotating correctly.

If I say rotate 10deg the line work is rotated 190deg

Plot Dialog Freezes Carlson 2013 ICAD 7.2

This occurred 3 times Friday and once already this morning.

After a couple of plots, when attempting another plot, the plot dialog will freeze.

All the selection fields are blank.  At this point ICAD/Carlson is locked up and it takes windows task manager to close it.

Then it either takes a full reboot of the system for the plot dialog to work again, or if the drawing is reopened and the menu is switched from Civil to GIS back to Civil, then it will work again.  Which I think means it is looking for a switch of some kind somewhere.

Without the reboot or the menu switching the plot screen continues to freeze everytime.

Insertobj – to insert a spreadsheet into a drawing does not work, “failed to create the item”

Wipeout – either from command or from button on toolbar does not allow existing polyline to be picked

Hydrology menu – very very slow response time in the dialog and numerous crashes, very simple pipe system, one inlet, one pipe, one headwall, crashed 4 times.

Editing of mtext inside of a twisted viewport, the text gets moved and rotated in model space.

Carlson 2013 Intellicad 7.2, latest test ver.

This version will not plot a paperspace layout. Dialog box appears with all fields empty. The computer freezes and all data since the last save is lost.
Love the properties dialog that is saved and re-appears each time you start the program..

Calculator cut/paste

I just installed 2013/7.2
So I'm using the calculator icon from the Inquiry icon menu.
why can I not copy the results?
Would it be difficult to include?  Do I need to set something so I can copy?

As a second question the snap to parallel command doesn't seem to be working; anyone else?  I tried both 2dp and line function.

Hello Everyone,

As you may have heard, we have been very busy getting Carlson 2013 with IntelliCAD 7.2 release out of the door. The product was released in the end of June and I know many of you have already installed and running it. This time, IntelliCAD 6.6 is not included (as well as AutoCAD 2000-2002 support), but IntelliCAD 7.2 is and it is official this time.

IntelliCAD 7.2 has received significant number of performance upgrades on the graphics end as well as few features. It also has newer DWG reading/writing engine which has better support for newer AutoCAD entities.

In meantime we have been keeping lookout for crash submissions from users on both IntelliCAD 7.1 and 7.2 and both have received many fixes as result of this input.

Some of the key changes:

-- Fix for keeping  plot jobs small has been included in 7.2 (not possible to port to 7.1, unfortunately)
-- Image problems with 7.2 were fixed after the release
-- Several deadlocks (hangups) have been fixed in 7.2 and more will come in next update
-- Problems with PDF attachments lead us to disable them in 7.1 to improve on stability with such drawings
-- Many crash fixes (both 7.1 and 7.2)

Xref and block screen resolution

Please let me know if there is a way to resolve the degredation of screen entities in blocks and xrefs. Zooming in and out the linework moves around and is notdepicted where it actually is located. If you bind and explode the blocks/xrefs the degedation goes away. This is a real problem in knowing for certain you are snapping to correct entities and just normal visualization.

Was this Blog / Forum limited to the Intellicad engine v7.1? Should all comment / issues be sent in as support requests now?

Surface Reports

I have measured points and I am comparing them to a surface file. Is it possible to get a report on all points above or below the surface?

I could make another tin file from the measurements and just use the daylight contour as a selection zone for points, but is there an easier way of reporting this?

Carlson 2013 - Intellicad 7.2

Ortho does not work properly. When snapangle is set and ortho is selected, you cannot draw a line in the desired direction. Only goes north-south or east-west.

BOUNDARY ignores bulged segments...

Hi,

Running BOUNDARY command and selecting an internal point produces a boundary that does not include the bulge for arc segments.

BOUNDPL does work.

no issues until I edited a road profile.  When the prompt asked to update the profile, I said yes

Offset command is still a little rough around the edges.

I have noticed that when selecting the direction for the offset if the cross-hairs line up with the object that you are trying to offset (see left example) the command works fine but when your cross-hairs do not line up (see right example) it does not offset, it cancels the command, and if you hit enter to repeat the command it brings up the last command that you used prior to the offset instead of offset.  This is particularly bothersome when I am trying to offset a short line while zoomed out.  Definitely not working as smooth as AutoCAD yet.

crashes

I have been having crashes when editing poly lines or points... anyone else having such issues with the new build?...

MATCHPROP with MText

MATCHPROP does not appear to copy the justification for MText entities.

F2F NOT SETTING COLOURS FOR LAYERS

When I run f2f the only layers which come up with the correct colours are the point attribute layers and the Dual 3d Polyline layer all other layers are defaulting to white.

I have recently done a clean re-install to attempt solve some other issues and now it seems another issue has been created.

 I can view the F2F fld file are the settings are all Ok.  I cannot find any setting where this could be set. When I run F2F I have the BYLAYER selected for the linework and colour on the pull down toolbar.

Two viewports?

Intellicad version: 7.1.1644.53233.P

I don't really understand what is going on here but:

1. Switch to a layout tab
2. Run MVIEW to create a polygonal viewport (clipped) and click a few points to define it.
3. Select the viewport.
4. Open the properties panel.

For me, the properties panel indicates three entities are selected, 1 polyline and 2 viewports. I am expecting two entities to be selected, 1 polyline and 1 viewport.

I ran LIST on the selected group and it indicates only two entities are selected but it does list two viewports, or more correctly the same viewport twice.

Seems strange.

Window Background Colour

When I have more than one document open the window background colour can only be changed in one.

1. Open two or more documents.
2. Change the window background colour using either the CONFIG dialog or (setvar "BKGCOLOR" #)
3. Switch the active document, the background colour is same as before the change.
4. In second document run the (setvar "BKGCOLOR" #) or CONFIG again to make the same change and it seems to be ignored.

Active document...

Hello,

It is possible to change the active document using Ctrl+Tab while a long-running task is active. Doing so has caused an infinite loop using full CPU resources. This was initially done inadvertently as I was rushing and thought the command had completed.

Example:

Open multiple documents with many layers and entities.
Run ISOLATE to isolate layers.
Run RESTORE to restore the layer visibility.
While RESTORE is running hit Ctrl+Tab to change the active document.
The CPU usage should remain high.

Update:

After testing it again the restore layers did complete after many minutes. Several orders of magnitude longer at full CPU than if the active document did not change.

Intellicad version 7.1.1644.53233.P

I am having some issues with the Roads package.

1.setting up a median strip in Road templates is problematic. As for many other functions the help manual could be a bit clearer. The setup relies on a grade point in and out. Without knowing what order the program is calculating the grades this a little beyond my ageing brain.
2. When a median strip is selected, the subgrade does not extend to point selected in the subgrade such as edgeconc. It does not add the width of the median strip.
3. If a median profile is setup in can be saved, but then if you set one profile for the left hand side and then one for the right the editor appears to save the last one created for both sides. I would like to mirror one profile, but the grade in / grade out throws that a muck.
4. I have several instances of the program going into infinite loop when I have been moving between Road Network and the model space 
5. i have to submit this plan next week so it would be good if the issues were sorted.

PEDIT changes properties...

The polyline created when using PEDIT on a line or arc does not have properties matching the line or arc. I thought this was fixed before but perhaps not...

1./ Create and make active layer "1"
2./ Draw a line
3./ Change colour of the line to 1 (red)
4./ Create and make active layer "2"
5./ Set CECOLOR to ByLayer
6./ Run PEDIT and select the line, yes to create polyline.

The polyline is created on layer "2" with colour ByLayer but should be on layer "1" with colour 1.

Close the drawing and open with Intellicad 6.6.179.0.P:

• Open project explorer : File | Project | Project Explorer and no drawings are found since the path displayed for the files in the project explorer appear to be based on the  project file location (W:\rba\88\8841\Carlson\Settings\) instead of the project directory (W:\rba\88\8841\)

• now the project path in Set Project/Data Folders is W:\rba\88\8841\Carlson\Settings\

If the project explorer panel is open and the save button on the standard toolbar is hit then the project explorer panel is all greyed out and cannot be closed.

The panel can be refreshed by opening the project file again File | Project | Project Explorer and then closing works.

new build issues

Windows 7, 8 GB of memory, Carlson 2012 build 120524, ICAD 7.1.1644.53233.p

1. Insert a block takes numerous attempts to get to work
2. Draw plan sheet (profile menu) crashes all the way to the desktop without an error submission screen
3. Concrete (Conc) Hatch doesn't work

I loaded the latest patch on my office computer I operated most of the day with not to many problems. As the day progressed I could sense the computer was slowing down in response time. Several of the little irritations mentioned in my earlier post occurred, but it did not cause any crashes. However, later in the day I had a quick crash, where the problem screen just closes without warning.


I am also having difficulty getting the wipeout, attached to a custom symbol, to operate correctly. I cannot get the symbol, with a wipeout, to appear in the correct order. I have opened  a job where the structure works and I have tried cut & paste the symbol without success.


Often I will open a job , a layout tab or  zoom the screen screen,  the text will all go askew. It also can happen when I insert a symbol. The problem disappears when I go the text style screen and select one item and the close.

On going Problems

I am having issues with the following
For no particular reason some commands are not being recognised and I will have an error such as
Unable to recognize command "isolate".  Please try again
I may have used the command several times previously and then without any discernible event the error comes up. Often the command will return to use by changing between screens or different jobs.

UNDO reliability...

I have often noticed UNDO does not produce the expected result.  I have a suspicion the problem might be related to the use of the ESC key to cancel commands or hit while no command is active? Here is a recent list of commands executed, I wanted to go back and change the radius used for the FILLET:

The problem I have is by the time the EXPLODE was undone the polyline was gone from the drawing.

Next I tried to repeat it and this time the arc from the exploded polyline remained, could be selected and _DELETE continued to report it found one entity as I tried several time to delete it. Finally I issued a REGEN and the arc disappeared. Still the original polyline does not exist.

Okay, I have just done another test with the log file on and a script recording. I'll send them in via email to see if they are any help.

Is anyone else noticing anything odd with UNDO?

Toolbars restored oddly...

This morning when I first started Carlson the toolbars were restored in a strange manner. Each toolbar on its own line. As far as I can tell the shutdown yesterday was normal. Once I repositioned the toolbars they are again restored as expected in subsequent restarts.

Not sure if it is helpful and since the toolbars are restored properly again it is not an issue just a noteworthy oddity. ;-)

Select layer from library issue...

There seems to be a wee problem with selecting a layer from the layer library when accessed while editing a field to finish code definition.

• Draw Field to Finish
• Edit Codes
• Edit Field Code Definition
• Set Main Layer (Select Layer dialog)
• Library

When I first hit the Library button the Select Layer dialog will not dismiss. I am able to dismiss the lower dialogs and get back to a command prompt.

As I cancel I have found the layer library dialog. On another occasion when I try the same operation again immediately I see the layer library dialog in place of the Select Layer dialog.

Tried with Carlson (120524) Intellicad 7.1.1644.53233.P.

Attempting to load the file by hitting the Load button in the Linetype Manager dialog then browsing to the folder and selecting the file results in an error message:
Invalid file content. Please check the file and try again.

Loading the same file works when the command is run without the Linetype Manager dialog:

3. ~
4. Browse to folder and pick file using dialog.

Response is All linetypes are loaded from the selected file. And now the linetypes are listed in the Linetype Manager.

Attempted to create a new linetype file using -LTYPE command. The file name selection dialog does not accept a file name is the file does not exist. It is not possible to create a new file this way.

Small update is posted

We have found and fixed a crash problem introduced in Monday's update.

If you downloaded and installed build posted on Monday, please run All Programs->Carlson Software->Carlson 2012 with IntelliCAD 7.1, Check for update to fix it or simply re-apply the patch.

The corrected version is 120524, which can be verified by checking Help->About Carlson.

Entity properties toolbar show frozen layer...

Given:

• overlaid 2d and 3d geometry with identical positions in XY plane
• 2d and 3d geometry on different layers
• the 3d geometry is "on top" from an entity selection perspective
• the layer with the 3d geometry is frozen
• neither 2d or 3d layer are current
• use mouse to select an entity a 2d entity

For me, the layer displayed on the entity properties toolbar is the frozen 3d layer while the correct layer is displayed in the properties panel.

Once a pressed-state or grayed-state variable has been set it seems they cannot be deleted. The values can be changed but not removed.

If a toolbar button is in it's grayed-state it cannot be selected to customize.

Extract Archive File

When I attempt to extract an archived zip file I get the following error
Error -1995: failed to extract atchive
Check that folder Wed May 16 17:18:42 2012 has write permissions

I can extract the files without a problem outside of Carlson.

I am still getting incorrect folders created in my Drawing Explorer. I can remove them using change directory, then after some time more will have been created

Solution to mouse stickiness

Here is a suggestion our support specialist Brian Harris shared with me and I think it makes sense: Currently IntelliCAD has a selection preview (entity under the cursor highlight) turned on most of the time. Unfortunately this increases the drag (stickiness) of the mouse. Brian suggested changing current default for system variable SELECTIONPREVIEW from 3 to 2, which means highlight in the command, but not while you are just at the command line. So - type SELECTIONPREVIEW, hit Enter and set it to 2. Of course if you want it off all together - just set it to 0. Hope this helps, Leonid

Point Name Length bug

I had created some points using screen pick and automatic numbering, and had a rather long alphanumeric point name (9 characters). I found that the only points that were saved to my coordinate file were number 1-9.
I didn't get any error messages, the rest just didn't save.
I tried to update the crd file from drawing, and got an error for each point.
I then deleted all the points that didn't save and went back to Draw-Locate Points > Screen Pick, and when I tried to set the Starting Point Number, I couldn't enter the last digit.
I believe that my points were not saved because the alphanumeric code I used exceeded the space allowed for the point name.
I think that the allowed character limit should be greater than 9, especially using alphanumeric numbering, and I certainly believe that there should have been some error pop-up to warn me that if I exceeded the allowed character space that the points would not be saved in my crd file.

Inserting Images

Having some trouble with inserting aerial photos - tiff images with a tfw georeference file.

The images come in really large.  I have the scale and position prompts off so it is just importing the image per the TFW file with no manual positioning or scaling.

Did the same thing with the same files in Carlson 2012  Icad 6.6  - and the problem does not occur.

Anyone having trouble with the offset command not working on labeled lines?

Backup to custom location

Following earlier post regarding printing problems I have isolated a link to the quick crashes. A crash which has no warning and occurs just at the click of a mouse with no error screens or crash reports is linked to my configuration for the backup directory. I had set the backup to be stored in a folder within my data drive. I had the time set to 15 minutes for backups. The crash was occuring very close to the backup period. I changed the time and the crash followed. I have now directed the backup folder to the default doc & sett sub folder and the crashes stopped.

HATCHEDIT...

Intellicad 7.1.1636.52167.P

When using dialog version of HATCHEDIT I do not see the options for recreating the hatch boundary or setting the origin point.

I see the commandline version -HATCHEDIT does support both of these functions. One thing to note is the recreated boundary entities are created with layer set to 0 and not the current layer. I think it should be set to the current layer.

Printing issues

I cannot get the print function to behave correctly. I have used two different printers drivers, one a plotter and the other a pdf document converter. With the plotter it will not recognised the plotters ability to send to a image program so as the sheets can be arranged for plotting, and the document converter just cannot get an image. If I go back to ver 6.6 I plot without a problem. The plotter is a Canon IPF750 and the document converter is Universal Document Converter.

Associative Hatch and PICKSTYLE

I have PICKSTYLE set to 3 and when I pick a hatch the boundary entities are not selected with it. If I select the hatch with a crossing window it does select all entities the hatch is associated with. I think with PICKSTYLE=3 a single click on the hatch entity should select hatch and all associated entities.

Properties Panel : Hatch Entity

The properties panel does not display the associativity or island detection properties. This is not critical since HATCHEDIT allows me to change both. Properties are easier when changing associativity or island detection for multiple hatches.

Layer Inspector Issues

I've had some issues with Layer Inspector in the 120408 release.
With it open, using the mouse wheel to zoom in or out with the cursor in the view window sometimes zooms properly, and sometimes scrolls through the layer list, seemingly at random.
Also, trying to drag the top of the layer inspector window upward to view more layers resulted in a duplicate window halfway up the screen that pushed the original window down when I tried to return it to the previous position.

Been stable for a couple days

Been using new build for a couple days , and been fairly stable . Seems that it is a production build so far. Few issues but not major .

Quick Profile - Path Disappears

When I generate a quick profile by drawing a polyline on the screen the trail disappears on each click and only the current line segment is visible.

It would be good if the whole path was shown.

Object Snap Toolbar

Hi, the buttons on the Object Snap toolbar did not have the pressed state configured. Might have been as a result of something I have done. Just thought I would point it out in case it is missing from the standard install. I have configured the pressed state variables for each button here now.

Feature request

Now how about being able to copy columns or rows from excel and paste them into the point editor?

I work a lot with data from different sources and programs, most of them can export txt files but often I have to work on sorting or changing the data in some way so a great next step would be to just copy paste right into icad.

CHSPACE

CHSPACE is not safe with undo. The first time I tried the entity was kind of stuck in no mans land. It was in paper space but could not be selected with window methods. The only way to select it was with two clicks on it. The next attempt (after a restart) ended with the entity properly restored to model space but a second attempt to use CHSPACE on the entity after changing the view twist failed.

Problem opening older version drawings

I have tried several times to open drawings from older versions of Intellicad (and CGSurvey) with the 7.1 test version but the program has repeatedly crashed.  Is this a glitch in the test version or will I not be able to open these older version drawings ?

UNDO and old lisp compatability

Hi, it seems the new Intellicad UNDO command does not support the old options "G" and "E". It is an easy enough change to update the my old code to use BEGIN and END options but I thought I would points it out... the error message on the command line when running an old lisp using "G" and "E" is:
Requires an integer between 1 and 32767, or option keyword.

Available memory low

Thank you for the invitation and the update patch. I have installed it and did experience some speedup by using the SELECTIONPREVIEW and setting it to 1. I get "Available memory is low" warning in a drawing that I am working on that has 2 color aerial images of 286MB each.


I am running Survey 2012/Intellicad 7.1 on an Acer Aspire 7736 laptop with 4.00GB RAM, 64-bit operating system on Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1. Processor is a Pentium(R)  Dual-Core T4300 @ 2.10GHz. Graphics are Mobile Intel(R) 4 series Express Chipset Family. Total available graphics memory is 1695MB, Dedicate graphics memory is 64MB and shared system memory is 1631MB. Hard Drive is 286GB with 206GB free.

Carlson Full install of build 120219 on April 4-11-12 and update to build 120408 installed on 4-13-2012.

Still hanging at drawing close...

Hi, just to update... The application still hangs sometimes when I close drawings. The most recent was after creating a 3D polyline with pipe data and generating a section points file then creating the sections in a different drawing. Upon closing the sections drawing the application hung and I lost the changes to the main design file when I killed it.

Paste as Block

Is there a paste as block feature in 7.1? I have found paste special but not option to paste as a block as I typically use this feature often. Currently i am having to block out and insert which works fine but extra steps.

Triangulation Data Problem Panel

Hi, I just tried to create a TIN. The software is reporting there are crossing breaklines and vertical edges so the triangulation error log is loaded into the Data Problem Panel. When I try to identify a reported problem using the Zoom To and/or Zoom In buttons all I get is 'd_hnil printed on the command line.

Edit: Hmmm... now after restarting I still see the 'd_hnil on the command line but the display is changing with the Zoom To and Zoom In buttons. Strange.

Object Linking?

Is it known if Intellicad will support more object linking with the 2013 release? I am really looking forward to having links between points, lines and labels.

Build 120408 Rotation Problem

When you rotate a polyline by selecting the reference angle by endpoints or points, the line will rotate correctly the first time, however if you need to rotate the line a second time the rotated line appears to be rotated by the new angle + the angle of the first rotation. Seems that the rotation angle is not being cleared after rotation, and the second angle is added to it.

Tiff is not in same location as the imageframe

I have a tiff that does not align with the imageframe. I know the imageframe is in the correct location and with imageframe set to on it is visible with the same properties as in AutoCAD. If I zoom in on the tiff the image streaks and a regenall does nothing to fix it.

Just tried to attach an aerial photo to an existing drawing and it appeared to scale incorrectly taking up the whole screen and obscuring the rest of the model.

I went back to Civil 2012  Icad 6.6 and that works fine.  It is a Tiff using a TFW file for georeference.  I am leaving the user inputs for origin, scale, rotation etc. blank.

I had a crash yesterday when changing a linetype - but noticed that the program salvaged the drawing and presented it upon reboot.  This seems to be new and works well.  I know Autocad has that capability but I always used to go hunt through the temp file for the last autosave file. - Progress!  Maybe I did not have the settings right before.

Issues with 20120408 build...

The double-click does not appear to work for me. If I double clock on a simple CAD entity the properties panel should open but it does not. Also, a double click on a centreline or profile in a drawing should open the appropriate editor but it is not. Perhaps related, each time I select an entity the command line advances.

When I select a single entity the controls on the Entity Properties toolbar would update to show the properties of the selected entity. They no longer do that (and did not with the previous update, I am not sure when it stopped to be honest).

Working with a TIFF raster image displayed is still prohibitively slow. Even with SELECTIONPREVIEW=0.

Deferred tangent and perp snaps don't seem to be working.

Still unable to dock toolbars at edge or working space in editor when command line and properties panel are displayed.

Same linetype issues already reported.

Text rotates when editing in twisted viewport.

If I edit text in a twisted viewport it rotates the text on me. The only way I have found to get around this is to edit the text in model space however sometimes it is hard to find in model space due to size and complexity of my drawings.

Displaying DWG files

I notice that when I double click on a dwg file, Carlson 2012 ICAD 7.1 opens up with the default Drawing 1 but the subject file does not load up and display.

Usability with raster image:

I have a drawing with a TIFF raster image background. the cursor position update during commands is quite sluggish. While drawing a line I need to move the mouse and pause for the cursor and line jig to catch up. It seems the raster image has an effect whenever a portion of it is in the display, even if the cursor is not located within the image frame.

Scale Lineweights

While using the scale lineweights toggle it appears correct in the plot preview however it is not scaling at all on my plots or PDFs.

Getting an available memory level is low warning everytime I do any command. Anyone else seeing this? As of right now this is the only program I have running on a brand new computer. All other programs have been shut down and I still get the warning.

While attempting to join several polylines and lines together I encountered the following:

Notice the number of reported segments added! In fact This problem was narrowed down to a single polyline / line pair that did not share a common endpoint. The Y-coordinates differed by a small amount.

Later I tried a similar test intentionally created with a 0.01 mis-match in the y-coordinate. This time the command reported 1 segment was added but none actually were. Attempting to change the layer of the line causes a crash. Audit immediately before the layer change reports no error.

Properties panel.

I am unable to use the Tab key to move thought editable fields in the properties panel.
i.e.: using tab to move through the scales of an insert or coordinates of a text entity, etc.

If the entity type drop-down at the top of the properties panel has the focus hitting the escape key does not give focus back to the command window but I think it should.

The auto-complete, type-ahead search functionality (not sure what to call it) does not work properly for controls such as layer or linetypes. When the control is opened so the list is displayed with the scrollbar and a key is hit the first match starting with the character hit is selected and the list control is closed. It should simply highlight the first match and stay open which would have it behave similar to the layer or linetype controls on the Entity Properties toolbar.

The panel is slow to appear when first requested.

Carlson Settings...

My configuration:
- Data Folder Setup set to Project Folder
- multiple sub-folders setup for the project with data types assigned to sub-folders
- use data folder for settings enabled
- startup settings folder assigned to the location of my company standard settings

I like to save the settings in the project settings sub-folder so old projects don't end up affected by "standards evolution" so my work flow is: first load a standard settings file, save it to the project settings sub-folder and each time thereafter load from the project sub-folder. This way I have all settings used archived and only the settings used.

This would be very easy to do if the Carlson file selection dialogs always contained at least the assigned project settings folder and the startup settings folder in the Recent Folders list. Currently the startup settings folder is not available in the list if Use Data Folder for Settings is enabled in Project Setup.

This is a wish list item, not urgent. Perhaps there is a more logical / simpler way to achieve the same thing that someone else is willing to share?

Project Explorer

When the project explorer is used to open a drawing the initialization is not complete until the project explorer is closed. This causes a problem when more than one drawing is opened from the project explorer. Only the last opened drawing will have a properly initialized environment. The Carlson settings, Quick Keys etc are affected. Also, when there is an ICADDOC.LSP file it is only loaded into the last drawing.

Delete

When I select something and press delete, the things I selected gets unselected and I get asked to select entities. In the last version I could select stuff and press delete and it got deleted. Have you noticed this?

Update.

It seems that the selection is somehow not working like it should. When I select lines on different layer than the current one, the quick layer window on top doesn´t change to show the layer of selected items or no layer if they are on different layers. Also I can´t change lines layers by selecting line and changing the layer in the layer window, I have to open properties and do it from there.

Linetypes

I sent this in as a support request in December but can't find a response. Being that it was near Christmas I likely did something with the response. It is still an issue for me so I figured I should add it here just in case it was overlooked:

I am having a problem loading complex linetypes into Intellicad 7.1. The same line types load into ICAD 6.6 and Bricscad with no problems.

will not load but if I change the text style to STANDARD it will load. The ROMANS text style does exist in the drawing and the line type will load and display fine in the same drawing using ICAD 6.6 or Bricscad.

The Intellicad 7.1 version seems to refuse to load any line types from a file if it has a problem with any single line type definition. From the user perspective, I would expect the program to issue a warning (identifying the line type) when a problem is encountered but continue to load the definitions it understands.

The Intellicad 7.1 version has a problem with the command line version of the LINETYPE command. When a ~ is entered on the command line at the prompt should and does open a dialog to allow the user to browse for the lientype file. All linetypes should be loaded from the file once it is selected but Intellicad 7.1 is trying to load a line type definition with the name "~" and obviously fails. Command window output:

Usability performance...

I have been reluctant to comment much on performance since I know these are beta builds. I just guess there is likely a lot more debug / QA type code executing than there will be once a release is made. Is this true or should I be more concerned about the "feel" and performance? Is there a need to report these types?

Layer States Manager

I our business we use the layer states manager extensively with many drawings having multiple saved layer states. These layer states are not available in the new IntelliCAD Explorer. We can export our layer states to a .lay file and then restore from that file but there is no way to recover existing layer states that I have found. Also when I do restore from a .lay file the restore process is very slow going through each layer at nearly a second each. Any ideas?

Opening Drawing

I have tried to open an existing drawing (created in Autocad with an Xref attached) withe the latest 7.1 without success, it opens in 6.6.
When I carry out a recover, the file works

Slow regens & unattached image issues

I'm using a drawing that I have been using on all the prior 7.1 builds and find this one to be the slowest for zooms. I was not able to open the file until I removed all images in AutoCAD and reopen in ICAD. In 6.6 the drawing loads fast and zooms as well as AutoCAD. It took about a minute to change the pdmode variable to 2......

Updating and existing settings...

I just installed the 20120322 update and was reminded of the existing settings dialog. At first run, the updated application warns us there are some existing / updated settings files conflicts. The user is presented with the option to use skip the template file. There are often so many files affected and the prompt is offered for each file individually. I suspect any typical user starts out looking at the files and making a decision then just chooses to use all template files.

Perhaps a tree view of all affected settings files can be displayed with the top level being either by application, i.e. Civil, Survey, GIS, Hydro, Mining, etc. or type, i.e. Menu, Symbol, Linetype def, etc. Or at the least a list control with scroll bars that can be sorted by heading.

That being said, this is a minor issue since the backup is there to review afterwards.

Something amiss with the mouse

In the last two days the behaviour of my mouse has gone astray. It works fine in 6.6 but in 7.1 with latest two patches I cannot get right click to function properly. I have not installed any other software or made any changes that I can attribute the change in behaviour.
Simple operations will not work such as select text, right click and select edit text. Sometimes if I select the entity again after choosing the function it will work. I cannot find any settings which might account for this behaviour.

UnExplained crashes

I have had several crashes where the only commonality I can pick is that they are older jobs which when I re-open after the crash I find that they had some errors when I run audit. Today I opened I job I created from scratch in dec last year. I had not worked on it since early january, I did some listing of points, adding one line and editing text, operations which I have successfully without problems. After editing one piece of text the program just closed, instantly, no error warnings no delays just like a mouse click it was gone. When I reopened I found it had 30 errors with audit.

I must now remember to run audit before using any existing jobs.

Insert excel sheet

I am having problems inserting excel tablets into my drawing. If I copy/paste then I will get everything in one line. Paste as block will give the same results. Paste special as a excel worksheet will paste a white box with nothing in it in my drawing.

Currently I am saving my tablets as jpg and insert them as raster img.

I have used google maps to create a vicinity maps in 6.6 by opening google maps, zoom to desired area, print screen, paste to "paint", block area of interest, copy and paste to vicinity map area in my paper space template and then trace lines and label streets. With 7.1, I only get a blank block, no line work or text.
Also when modifying a paper space layout, incomplete list of layouts.

Erase Outside

I have come across a problem with Erase outside and Erase by polyline.
I am working in a very large file.
If you use erase outside every thing is erased and when you use erase by polyline and erase outside everything is erased and if you use inside nothing is erased.

I have tested on a small file and it works.

I also have the same problem using 6.6

ESnap markers...

This is a minor issue. Snap markers are sometimes displayed when they should not be. I have had markers appear while being prompted to selected entities and other times when they appear during a command when it is prompting for options. For example when using PEDIT command after the polyline is selected and the user is presented the list of operations to choose from.

Restarting the application restores the snap marker behaviour to what it should be.

Seemed odd so I thought you might want to know...

Another item for wishlist...

I would find it quite useful to have a mid-between-two-points snap (M2P) in Intellicad.

I have just opened an existing drawing in Intellicad 7.1, and it was busy for quiet awhile and when it finally opened I had lost the Pull Down Menu's for Settings and Points.
How do I get these menu's back??

Project Folder

The fault in the project folder system is causing problems in a number of areas. This was an occasional problem in earlier version but now it causing constant problems in a lot of different areas. Today, when I ran F2F, a linetype template (kerb,which I use in 90% of my detail surveys ) was incorrect because it was not finding the correct folder.
In the same job I checked to see the project folder was correct when I started the job, then after doing several F2F and some other simple functions, I returned to the project folder setup to find it had changed the folder again.
In my project folder I have several folders, field,xref,drawing etc. The project folder keeps defaulting back to the \project folder\drawings folder rather than\Project folder.

Wish list for next build 7.1 or 7.2 ;)

I would really like to see:

1. the ability to freeze layers in an xref by clicking on the layer

2. the ability to list a layer in an xref (xlist or equivalent)

3. to draw a rectangle by entering the dimensions

to a lesser degree

4. the ability to change color of a layer by viewport

Rotate & Translate Points Issue

We have discovered an error when rotating and translating points. This error occurs in the latest version (Carlson2012) of both iCAD6 & iCAD7, also verified that it does this on more than one computer here. After importing points, we list the points and verify that they imported correct. Then we rotate the points & translate the points, after that one point is put way out in space. Then we list the points again and all of them look good except for that one point. Seems to always be the last point that gets thrown out in space. This happens every time we rotate and translate points. For a temporary work around we make a junk point at the very end so that all of our points rotate and translate properly.

Line by point numbers off in space.

Drawing lines by point number and lines did not end up on the points . Lines were way off in space . Also still having issues with plotting sometimes not showing full drawing. Have not loaded the most recent patch just posted using last one .

CHSPACE issue

two viewports, one at twisted view, one true north. Change space of text out of true north, it comes into paperspace twisted to the angle of the other viewport.

patch issues

I uploaded the recent patch Leonid sent. I am having problems with rotating objects. If I draw a line and want to rotate 180 degrees and enter that value in, I get something other than 180 degrees. (tried 270 degrees, too, and it looked more like 27 degrees).   Also, I noticed my drawings freeze up a lot now.... Anyone else experiencing this?

Grid not visible

I can´t see the grid when I turn it on. I haven´t tried in other versions so not sure if this is only this one that is affected. I can snap to grid so I know it is there, just can´t see it.

If I have spacing of 1000 1000, then I see it. Change the spacing to 1000 100 and I still see it, but when I go for 100 100 or less then it disappears. I get the message that "the grid spacing is too small to display in this view" Zooming in will not change that.

Data collection connection - Com Port

I have found we are unable to upload via the com port connection under: Menu BarSurveyData collectors dialog (we use the Nikon tab for our Nikon DTM 550 and 552 onboard data collection instruments. We are using the latest version of intelliCAD 7.1 BETA - 2/19 with Carlson Survey, build 120219. The weird thing is we can download just fine but the port is not recognized when we switch to upload. We need to use version 6.6 to upload data.

New TESTING build is posted for the blog

We have been busy collecting data from the build posted on 2/19. About a couple of dozen of important fixes now have been integrated in a new build we have now posted on the blog.

Fixes include:
- number of identified crash scenarios
- couple of hatch corruption issues
- couple of printing issues
- couple of MTEXT issues: fix for associative MTEXT and fix for background mask covering the text
- more judicious use of "_Salvaged" suffix

object snaps

Not sure if others have had this problem, but in 7.1 when I select "intersection" object snap, it does not pick the intersection or allow me to select entities. Any advice?

I am trying to install the update to Intellicad 7.1 on Carlson 2012 but the install fails.  Can anyone advise how to do this ?  If I try to install the complete version and enter my current serial number will it interfere with my current version of 2012 ?

Command history...

I have some suggestions for the command history:

1. I often type a lisp expression in at the command prompt. It would be very useful to me if they could be recalled from the command history.
2. Occasionally I make a mistake typing a command. I would find it useful if I could recall the invalid command and edit it.
3. There are many time I want to run a command a few times with similar inputs but not enough to make a script. Here it would be useful to have the user input history (i.e. coordinates or relative coordinates) available.

Hope they are considered generally useful.

Speaking of speed...

There are occasions when the Layer Isolate and Restore run very slow for me. Seems to be much worse after having worked for a while. It can get to a point when I see the crosshair blink for each iteration and the operation requires 10 seconds or more to complete. Same drawing with the same layers later after the software was recently restarted completes in a fraction of the time.

The import from CG-DOS has been soooooooo slow... it seems to grow exponentially slower as the size of the CG-DOS file complexity increases. This behaviour is new to the Intellicad 7.* versions. I have reported this previously but I don't recall receiving a response. If the test files are required again let me know.

Now speaking of CG-DOS imports, there is no CG data attached to the lines created, i.e. the lines do not indicate which points they connect. I really wish this would work.

Restoring saved layer states in 6.6 was for all intents and purposes instant.

7.1 latest build counts down every layer, about 3 layers a second, for large drawings this takes a couple of minutes.

road profiles slow to redraw-access

Carlson 2012 ICAD 7.1 latest build

Windows 7, 8GB of memory

There is a definite speed issue difference between 6.6 and 7.1 when creating/editing road profiles.

6.6 was almost instantaneous when after editing a profile, then prompted to re-draw. In 7.1 it ranges from 30 sec to a couple of minutes to redraw an edited profile.

Google Earth...

I am not sure if this belongs in the Intellicad beta blog but since there was already discussion previously I will add it here.

I wanted to import two images from Google Earth into the same drawing this morning. The first imported with no real problem, but Carlson closes Google Earth once the image is loaded. I restarted Google Earth and selected menu Images | Place Google Earth Image and Intellicad hung before the dialog appeared.

Okay, for the second attemp I imported the first image, saved dwg, exited Intellicad and restarted both Google Earth and Carlson Intellicad. The second imported fine also.

I experimented a little with this and it seems rather random. A couple of time I was able to import up to four images before a problem. Sometimes Intellicad hangs as soon as the menu command is started but before the dialog is displayed and must be terminated. Other times Intellicad crashes completely and the process is gone.

Either way, there is still a gremlin running around in there...

Plotting mirrored

Plotting is coming out mirrored check all setting cant figure it out .

Xref manager

7.1 latest build

the xref manager is extremely slow. This is compounded twice as it is extremely slow to open,

then once an xref is reloaded, repathed, or attached, the xref manager re-loads all the other xrefs as well.

On large projects with large xrefs and multiple xrefs this is going to be a major issue.

Warning Available memory low

Hello,

I recently installed the version 7.1 with latest build. I have been getting a warning available memory low level is low. Is there something I can do to fix this? I am running windows 7 with 4gb ddr3 ram and geforce GT 130 vid card with 1gb ram. It seems to do it on any drawing after about 20 to 25 command processes.

Image ghosting and moving to front

Since going to 2012 Carlson/Survey w intelliCAD 7.1 there has been an issue trying to move or scale image files. Once you start moving or scaling the image it moves up top of all the drawing data preventing you from using it as a reference for the command. This did not happen in 6.6.

New OFFICIAL build is posted

New (120219) build is posted both here and on official website. This includes IntelliCAD 7.1a and all current fixes. We have not yet called it a release though - official label is "release candidate".

Overwriting of drawing files!

In running Carlson Survey w/IntelliCAD 7.1 we have now had 2 instances where when we had 2 drawings files open at the same time one of the files has gotten overwritten with the other. We end up with two of the same files in different project directories and one file is of course lost!

iCAD 6.6 Paper Space Glitch

Today while using iCAD 6.6 I had two paper space tabs somehow get linked together. When I activated either of the two tabs I seen both tabs (one over the other). Any changes I made could be seen on both tabs. All I did was close the drawing and open it again and the glitch was corrected. This was the second time this has happened to me.

Carlson Survey Points

I use Survey to prepare stakeout plots for survey field crews showing proposed stakeout points. Invariably there is the need to drag these points out with a leader for clarity. I know there is the automated tool to do this also (fix point attribute overlaps) and it is awesome. The problem is if I pull the point using the "move point attributes with leader" command or using the automated option all the attributes are dropped (desc. and elev.) except the point number. If I attempt to move it again the point number and usually the leader disappear as well. This does not happen in 6.6 so I need to jump back and forth between versions quite frequently.

Crosshairs would not move new build , Plotting not correct

Crosshair was locked on the screen , but if mouse was moved you see that it was effecting cad entities when crossing over . Looked like it was acting correctly but with out the crosshairs moving with the mouse location.

Plotting not working - preview does not show the right scale or show all the paper in the view window nor does the final plot the plot window is cut off and is not correct scale .

Layout PDF Printing

I have a couple of issues. One of which may be an actual Carlson Hydrology 2012 issue but the other is definitely ICAD. First, the draw sewer network routine is taking about 10 mins to fully execute, from initially picking the command to selecting manhole label locations in paper space. It seems that the routine is only one processor instead of distributing across all 4 (or 2).
Once the the plan and profile are FINALLY drawn in the layout, when I try to plot to PDF evrything shows up in the preview except the actual sewer network plan view (pipes, labels, and symbols). Everything else is there, Profile and labels, title block, and any other plan view entities just not the sewer network entities.
Until there is a solution I've been copying the network entities from model space and pasting and rotating them in the layout view, overlaying them on the viewport entites that won't print.
Also, while in the layout view, the freeze/thaw layers routine causes the software to crash.

Fast copy between drawings

In iCad 6.6 I could copy between drawings by selecting lines and choosing base point (0,0,0) then clicking on another open drawing and entering the same point (0,0,0). But in 7.1 when I click the 2nd drawing it will cancel the command. Is there another way to do this or is there a way to get it to work again?
