Entity visibility in paper space...

I see one of the items listed in the 111214 update as fixed might still be affecting me. Working from a paper space layout in a drawing that has an XREF attached in mode space. As I change zoom levels sometimes the XREF is drawn and immediately removed from the display. Zooming in and it shows up again.

While on a layout tab with paper space active and moving the cursor over an entity in model space should not highlight the entity. I think the highlight should only be applied to entities in the active space (model or paper).

I don't see anything about fields in the docs or the MText editor. Is there a plan for fields to be added?

Adding toolbars...

When I add a toolbar it seems to get inserted between the menu bar and the toolbars already displayed. I would generally prefer the now toolbar be floating or displayed below the existing ones. Often I just show a toolbar appropriate for the task at hand and so want it closest to the document window and it seems to bother me when the Standard toolbar is not at the top...

But, more important to me is being able to place toolbars between the command console and the document window plus between the properties panel and the document window. I know I've discussed this with you before Leonid.

Hmmm... petty aren't I ;-) I should be looking at the bigger things!

Offset...

Intellicad : 7.1.1206.49033.P.Alpha

Hmmm... the offset command does not seem to work as well as in Intellicad 6.6 for the couple of test I have done. I wonder if others have had better luck with it.

Properties Panel

Intellicad: 7.1.1206.49033.P.Alpha

The properties panel state does not seem to be getting saved. I open the properties panel, move it to dock it on the right side (partial height option). When Intellicad is started again the properties panel is not displayed and it is placed on the left side when I open it.

PS: Is there a way to copy this version info? It is annoying to have to open the about dialog an switch back and forth between apps to make sure I copy it correctly :-(

Keyboard customization issue

Version: Intellicad 7.1.1206.49033.P.Alpha

It seems keyboard assignments are not being reloaded properly for some keys. I have added assignments for some snaps to my F-keys. All of them reload fine except for those I assign to F11 and F12.

F11 : _QUADRANT
F12 : _NODE
Shift+F12 : _NEAREST

The assignments are correctly written to the registry in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Carlson Software\IntelliCAD 7.1 Professional\Profiles\Carlson2012\Accelerators

and are exported to an ICK file as follow:

The F-keys work as expected during the session but once the program is exited and restarted F11, F12 and Shift+F12 do nothing. The registry entries still exist but the accelerators are not assigned.

Storm Network import from XML

The storm network from XML recognizes the pipe size, but not the slope.
All the pipes are imported in as 0.00% from the upstream to the downstream. By going into the setting and changing to automatic junction and clicking on update the downstream, the pipe slope will update to the downstream invert. It does not recognize drop manholes on the import.
All the pipe materials came in as Concrete.

General Editing crashes

In two different computers we have experience crashes without any identifiable common operation. On both occasions some basic editing was been done. Drawing lines and snapping to end point etc., which are used all the time without problems. A possible issue could be both computers are set up with dual monitors. I think this could be the cause of the need to click on a a previous screen to make a pop up screen active mentioned in my previous blog.

It could also be related to symbols. I have had trouble with some symbols and the second computer some work had just been completed installing the symbols.

I had a crash as a result of inserting a symbol. I had inserted sym 101 and I accessed the properties to change the x & y scale of the symbol. I increased it to 1.8 x1.6, it then disappeared of the visible screen. I could latch onto the insert point but could do little with it. I deleted it and tried another symbol and successfully scaled it, I tried the 101 and it lost the plot and crashed.

Ortho

Drawing a line with ortho turned on does not lock the line vertically or horizontally. Whilst drawing it is locked but when you click the end point it is not locked to the same x or y.

Printing issue after install new patch (111214)

I just installed the new patch and tried to print. Working in the same drawing one layout will not let me see anything in print preview and prints blank even when I print with scale to fit and window.
In another layout I can see parts and pieces of what is in the viewport but not my title block in print preview. I tried to print from this and the program locked up for a minute or two and now there is an error box that says "A required resource was" and has an ok button. After click ok it brings up another error box that says "encountered an improper argument" with ok button. It just keeps repeating these two error boxes when you click ok.

Reopened drawing and have the same results for first layout and same for the second layout with the exception that it did print but only parts and pieces that I could see in the viewport in print preview.

Leonid- this was in the 11-28 Torczon file I sent you last week. I have done no modification to this drawing.

New Build Posted (111214)

Please note that the testing build available through the links on the right have been updated to the latest.

Some of the key things fixed in the latest build:
- Zoom/Pan with entity highlight is faster
- Zoom/Pan in the drawing with a lot of text is faster (and more updates are coming!)
- Print files are now much smaller, resulting in smaller PDF files
- Problem with data loss in paperspace (reported by Mandy) is now fixed.
- Printing of drawing with faded images fixed
- Slow zoom/pan with scrollbars enabled fixed

- Numerous Carlson routines fixes, like one (reported by Col) in line table, issue with Draw Box around Text (reported by Harry) and others.

Based on your input we are working on several more fixes which did not make into this build, so please do not feel ignored if your particular issue did not yet get resolved.

How do I. . .

How do I make a continuous line type? I find this properties box a pain to use even though I know it is more like the AutoCad platform.

Problems in 7.1

I tried to re-created my listed problems below today. I could not make them happen but my tools bars reset them selves. I then re-placed my tool bars and loaded the latest patch and restarted my PC. All my toolbars stayed and I cannot duplicate my previous problems.

• Text edit it painfully slow to open
• Having problems changing text size
• I have to do a regen after everything thing I move, copy or rotate. The program doesn’t seem to do it on its own.
• Double clicking or right click and get the properties box to open is very slow.
• Doesn’t seem to like to delete layers in the layer manager. I can be deleting just fine and then it randomly crashes in the middle of it.

What is fixed since 111103 official update?

Here are some of the key fixes that resulted from Carlson user input since the official posting:
- Linetype loading and presentation
- Hangup on wheel zoom during selection
- Fixes to printer margins on preview
- Problems with erroneous substitution of the fonts in the drawing
- Problem printing drawings with viewtwist
- Added right-click on Layout to create one from template
- Fixes to handling of PDF underlays in Drawing Explorer
- Entity highlight is now working for overlaying entities (set system variable HIGHLIGHTLIMIT to 50)

When will Carlson with IntelliCAD 7 finally ship?

I am answering this question almost daily now.

IntelliCAD consortium has released IntelliCAD 7.1 on November 11, 2011. Carlson had several important issues reported prior to the release and they were fixed before the release happened. Now it we are testing the proper integration of Carlson 2012 and IntelliCAD 7.1 and actively fixing the issues we encounter. These fixes should be completed before we post an update to Carlson 2012 with released IntelliCAD 7.1.

I am actually hoping this blog will help us to arrive to the proper conclusion on whether what we have as Carlson 2012 with IntelliCAD 7.1 is ready to be used comfortably by the experienced CAD user.
